Rescue workers were unable to locate a 67-year-old man who fell off a cliff while fishing near South Point Sunday evening.

According to the Fire Department, other fishermen reported seeing the man, whose identity was not provided, fall into the water at about 8:45 p.m. The fishermen lost sight of the man when he was about 50 yards offshore.

A Fire Department rescue boat, with assistance from U.S. Coast Guard and National Guard crews, searched as far as six miles offshore, but did not locate the man. They intended to resume the search this morning.
